Description
Lac is isolated from the insect Kerria lacca which can be found in the far East. Lac is sensitive to pH and can range from crimson to deep purple. Cream of tartar will promote red, and soda ash will push the color towards purple.
Lac will need a mordant. Alum can be used at 15%. Our Lac is an extract so it should dissolve completely in the dye bath. Use 5-10% weight of fiber, and simmer extract in water for 45 minutes. Leave overnight for richer colors.
