The secret to beautiful heirloom quality embroidery is the control of the ground fabric. The Japanese style embroidery frames stretch the fabric in both the weft and warp directions to provide an excellent base so you can create a lasting and stunning piece that will be the envy of your friends and family. One of the pictures illustrates how the frame is used with a piece of embroidered fabric attached. That specific frame in not for sale, but the principal is the same for all of them.
Japanese Embroidery is a traditional embroidery style done with flat and twisted silk thread. The tight ground fabric allows the shimmering silks to be displayed to their best advantage. Many other forms of embroidery also benefit from a tightly held ground fabric.
Our frames are made from a variety of hardwoods which will not suffer breakage allowing a partially finished piece to undergo disruption. The beautiful grains in the fine wood setting off the shimmering silk will providing a serene and calming center for the embroiderer themselves. Our frames are finished with no less than 5 layers of hand rubbed polyurethane providing a silky smooth feel to the wood.
The frame are either 29 or 39 inches long and 20 inches wide. The stretcher bars can be a little longer. These sizes are recommended for the by the Japanese Embroidery Center.
The dowels will be made from poplar. Hardware consists of 2 nails and 4 pegs.
These frames are custom made by hand. It will take about a month to finish your piece.

Important!
It has come to our attention that some of our Japanese embroidery frames have issues with the dowels fitting properly. If this has happened please contact us so we can get you replacement parts.
